Caw is an instant messaging app that lets you sign on with a screen name, add friends, chat one-on-one, and create chat rooms. This policy explains what information Caw collects and how it's used.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create a screen name, we collect that screen name, a password, and an email address. Your password is never stored in plain text.

Buddy list: The screen names of the friends you add are stored so your buddy list can sync across sign-ins.

Profile and status: Any profile text or away message you choose to write is stored and shown to other users who look you up. This is entirely optional and can be cleared at any time.

Messages: Messages you send — direct messages and chat room messages — are transmitted through our server to deliver them to the intended recipient(s). Caw uses the classic OSCAR messaging protocol, which is not end-to-end encrypted, so message content is not scrambled from us the same way it would be in a modern encrypted messaging app.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above only to operate Caw: authenticating your sign-ins, syncing your buddy list, delivering messages, and showing profile/status information to people you interact with. We do not use your information for advertising.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with third parties, and we do not use any third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking services in the app.

4. Data Storage

Your account and message data is stored on servers we operate directly.

5. Your Choices

You can clear your profile or away message at any time from within the app. To request that your account and associated data be deleted, contact us using the information below.

6. Children's Privacy

Caw is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
